In the past I have only used products claiming to have shea butter in them. Soaps, shampoos, lotions, and creams. I wanted to check out what actual shea butter was before all the other things were added in to make it something else. I was sent this 1lb container of Cleopatra’s Choice pure raw organic shea butter in order to facilitate this review. I was in no way compensated and all thoughts and opinions are that of my own. The normal retail price is $16.00 so about a dollar per ounce. Sometimes on sale for $12 at the Cleopatra’s Choice website.
The first thing I noticed was the packaging. They did not invest much in it design wise. It is a simple round container and lid almost like you would use for leftovers in the fridge. I did not let this deter me from being open to test it out. The smell is nothing strong. Actually I could not detect much of a smell at all. Shea butter is used in many ways to help with skin issues, cuticles, feet, and cracked or dry skin. It felt a bit grainy and dry at first but once the body heat of my fingers massaged it, it was a bit more of a smooth consistency.
I used this for two things and it will last me a lifetime at this rate! It spreads easily so a little goes a long way. I have an issue with yanking at hang nails or my cuticles so I rubbed some in to heal the skin. Within one night they were smoother and not wanting to crack at the edges. The other use I had was to mix a bit of my DoTerra lavender essential oil into some and massage my son’s feet before bed. The oil alone was a strong scent to my husband. The shea butter helped to soften that scent but also let me smooth it across the feet instead of just dabbing a drop on. My son loved the massage and he got the benefits of both soft feet from the shea butter and the calming affects of the essential oil! I found it was easiest to use a small baby spoon or butter knife to scoop just a little out at a time.
I am going to play around with this product a bit more and see what other uses I can use it for, I definitely have a large quantity to use! If I come up with any fun concoctions to use it for, I will be sure to post!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
