“Australian Mum Renee Foord had a light bulb moment after another Mother at her son’s school bought one of her regular cotton carriers to take away on holidays for use in the water as it would dry quickly and give her 2 hands free to play with her other children in the water. “I thought this a great idea and began using the regular cotton carrier with my baby boy at the beach too, but found that once the water and sand got into the cotton it chaffed his little legs”…..this is when the aha moment came, watching surfers in wetsuits. Neoprene is the perfect material for the water, it flexes with the body, didn’t cause chaffing and has the added bonus of keeping your babies core insulated. So the Aqua by Slingthings was born.”- From press release.
I am an avid babywearing Mom. The search for a water style baby carrier came in to play when my husband had to work out of town five days a week and trying to bathe my son was a heart attack waiting to happen. We also have an above ground pool and getting in and out holding him terrified me. I was so excited to find out about the Aqua from Sling Things. They are based our of Australia but do ship worldwide!
This carrier is beyond simple to use! You pull it on like a shirt, undo the Velcro in the front to slide baby in, and Velcro back up! The material is a bit stretchy but is still snug fitting. To compare on sizing I wear a 12/14 with a total bust measurement of 46 inches, my son is 21lbs. He still has room to grow in this, it is a snug fit to get him in, but that give a nice secure feeling. They do carry a longer version that may give some more room but be aware of sizing.
The only snafu I had was not closing the Velcro before taking the Aqua off, my hair met it’s match!!! I love that it is in black, which matches any swimsuit, and made simple. It has simplified showers and using our pool. To top it off I am taking this with us to Mexico for my son’s first trip in the ocean. It fits so comfortably you will not feel like you are wearing a carrier, let alone a baby!
I know I will get years of use of this even after Davin, the quality is superior and will last through having more children. I will be using it right away to acclimate our future children in to water. Davin is a total fish and loves to be in and around water. Now, instead of having to hold him in the pool when he wants out of his rubber float, we can still walk laps or relax while wearing him knowing he is safe and secure.
