When it comes to local fun for the whole family, Lowry Park Zoo is one of my favorite spots! Membership alone, pays for itself in just two visits. Not to mention all the perks that come to Florida residents when you have membership. Lowry Park Zoo has been taking their extra fun to a new direction the past year and their all new Summer Sunset Celebration for the Summer, is an event you won’t want to miss!
Where: Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa, FL
When: Fridays and Saturdays from July 8 – August 6 (Summer 2016)
What: Fun for the whole family, included in membership price of for individual ticket entry after 4PM. Tickets available at the gate.
Most of the park is wide open for lots of fun. The kids will enjoy the Wallaroo Station that has the splash pad area open, rides, games, and petting zoo. The Adults are going to fall in love with the food options, beverages, and music.
I love everything about this Zoo, always have, always will. However, there are three reasons I think everyone who already goes to the Zoo regularly and those who have not gone to any special events, should go and check out this new addition to their special events line up;
- Family Friendly and SAFE! As always, the zoo is geared to the whole family and there is lots of fun for everyone. Live music from cover bands, the laser show at the end of the night, the food options have the normal items available but also exclusive editions for the event, a DJ with dancing and partying, dancers, a carnival atmosphere near the main stage, plus all the perks of the children’s area that you would normally enjoy. Everything is catered to make sure the whole family is enjoying their evening but is it also really safe for the kids!
- The food! There are multiple spots that have special menus for this event. You are able to buy tickets to redeem at these vendors. They have what they call, Dining passes. You can buy in a package of 5 or 10, see pricing here. If you are a membership holder, you get an additional discount. This allows you to pick and choose where and what you want to eat. Make sure to walk around and check out each of the vendors because each one is unique and fabulous! I do advise however, to purchase the plastic cup for sodas as that is an overall better value if you come to the zoo multiple times a year. Using the Dining Passes on alcoholic beverages is a good deal as well as all the food. An array of choices from Tacos, Barbecue, and Appetizer style snacks. Each item you order is full size, not samples!
- The Overall feel! The laser show was fantastic, no fear of fireworks like many places have, which makes it super kid friendly. My son had a blast with his light up bubble gun and the show. The show is synced with music over a loud speaker. Earlier in the evening the stage comes to live with amazing Cover Bands and everyone seems to less loose and just dance in the grassy field. The employees are so courteous and welcoming. The dancers in the entrance of the zoo, really get the kids involved in having fun and their costumes are so beautiful. It feels like a party that you are at with your best friends.
This event is limited time and I hope it is now an annual event as there was a few things we still didn’t even have time to check out because it was just so much to do in so little time! As an adult, I also do suggest grabbing a night time carousel ride! It is fun and beautiful!
Remember, membership passes or the yearly fun passes, are a great way to save for the whole family as well as gain access to most special events! The only additional costs for Summer Sunset Celebration are the Dining passes which save you money too~
