I couldn’t help myself but tear up at most of the tracks on the newly released Meaning of Life album from Kelly Clarkson. It was like she stepped in to my shoes, saw through my eyes, and wrote this music for me. Music has always been my outlet for every emotion that ever pulses through my body. It heals the soul and releases the emotions of pain, happiness, and heartbreaks. It captures the essence of every memory you have. Music should move you and Kelly does just that! The Meaning of Life from Kelly Clarkson is a powerful soundtrack to life!
I remember that night in 2002, my Mom and I were on the sofa, holding hands with each other as they announced the winner of the first American Idol. As the celebratory confetti flew on the television, we were jumping up and down! Who knew her music would continue to have such an amazing impact on my life. Looking back on those moments, are the good memories I had with my Mom.
The very first song that grabbed me and made me say, “This is my anthem!” was “Go High”
It’s too much, can’t breathe
It’s so not for me
Way too much
Everywhere that I go
Stand for nothing, fall short
But I won’t give up
I’ll keep giving love
Runs through my blood
I’ll never give up
When you go low, I go high, to get by, to get by
Sometimes (sometimes, sometimes) I don’t wanna be nice (nice)
But I try (but I try)
When you go low, I go high”
The whole album is dripping with soul and sweet harmony. Every song has a special message that any lady can resonate with. With female empowerment, soulful back up singers, and the always strong and vivacious voice we have come to love, Kelly has made this a personal album that we can all relate to.
When I heard “Move You” the line about the home that you were raised in, brought me to tears. Here I am, in one of my childhood homes. The home that some of my most memorable and tragic moments have occurred. When Hurricane Irma was barreling towards us, photographs…were all I cared about. Christmas, this year I am bringing back long gone traditions that we changed over the years to accommodate schedules. This year, I want to bring emotion and move the hearts of those I love.
“Like a symphony at sundown, in the middle of July
When a lyric really gets you and it breaks you down inside
Like the home that you were raised in
Like faded photographs
Like the thrill of Christmas morning
Yeah, I wanna move you like that”
When it comes to the title track, “Meaning of Life”, I think of my Mom smiling down on me. Before I met my husband in 2011, I could not stand being in a relationship longer than a year. Either it was not meant to be or I thankfully found out it was no good in time.
When I met my husband in February 2011, no one expected us to be engaged in less than three months and married by the one year anniversary of us meeting. We may not be the perfect couple but our love is true. Due to him, I have my son who is my blessing and reason for finding a way to “Go High” in those lost moments. Without those two, my darkest moments could have been my last.
If you have ever written off a love or friendship, to make yourself more mentally healthy. “Medicine” is the song you will be dancing around the house to! Turn the album up because you are better than all that drama.
“Ya can’t get me high
Never got me lit
Never bring me up
Always drag me down
I’m through with it
You ain’t my medicine”
