Inspire Your Guests with Fresh From Florida In Season Produce
One of the great things about the state of Florida, is the Fresh From Florida in season produce! We are very well known for Plant City…one of our top farming areas local to me. With Spring and Summer in full swing, finding the freshest ingredients to host a lunch party with in season produce was a breeze! David and I both have a passion for cooking and spending time in the kitchen is something we truly enjoy. Hosting others is a huge love of mine. I have always loved bringing people together with great fun, food, and making memories.
There are so many amazing in season produce recipes you could incorporate in to a party but I kept is super simple so any of my guests could duplicate our meal on their own. We decided to let everyone have their own personal touch by having a spread of ingredients for our guests to create street tacos. We supplied soft tortilla shells, steak strips, chicken, fresh red onions, fresh cilantro, sour cream, Mexican blend cheese, fresh limes, hot sauces, and of course tasty beverages and cocktails.
No meal would be complete without side dishes and getting your servings of fruits and vegetables. I chose to serve a simple corn on the cob with the Fresh From Florida sweet corn. I boiled it, than put garlic butter, salt, pepper, Mexican blend shredded cheese and bacon. I slow baked for about 15 minutes at 350 than broiled on low for 4 minutes with extra cheese. It retained it’s sweet juicy flavor but with the added flavor of the extra ingredients.
David seems to be a professional watermelon picker…his selection was on point! His Mom told me he knows how to slice and dice and it was actually amazing to watch him take a five pound Fresh From Florida watermelon and cut the whole thing up. We served most of it on kebob sticks with Fresh From Florida blueberries, which are also an in season produce this time of year. I also put some extra blueberries on kebob sticks to serve with dessert. Fresh blueberries (or berries in general) always make a simple yet colorful accent to desserts.
One of the reasons I always search out Fresh From Florida in season produce is because not only do I know it is pure quality but it is as fresh as can be. When you select in season produce you are always getting the best price as well. Since I know my in season produce did not travel far, I know it will actually last longer. I mean, I could TRY to eat a five pound watermelon in 1-2 days but I might have to only eat that. I know even once we cut the watermelon up it lasts about a week in a storage container in the fridge. It is my favorite thing to pack to take to work to snack on during the day.
When you serve a meal that pretty much is self serve, you save time and get to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your friends and family. Everyone got to create the street tacos that best suit their tastebuds and than compliment it with the sweet corn and fruit kebobs. To finish off the meal, I served some caramel flan with Fresh From Florida blueberries, the caramel sauce on the blueberries was divine!
