I’m “That Mom”. I had a vision for my son’s 1st Birthday and I ran with it! Thanks to Shindigz Party Supplies sending some of the amazing items we used, we really were able to put the perfect finishing touches on what I envisioned. It was so much better than I could have imagined and people are still talking about it! How will we top it next year? (Oh, you better believe I already have ideas) Just an FYI, there may be some affiliate links in here 😉
Let me start by saying we did things as simple as possible with a large guest list. No one wanted to be left out of his big day. Funny, because he slept through most of it! I coerced my sister and brother in law to use their Halloween Pirate costumes and dress up for photos with the kids (and adults) for 30 minutes. It was a highlight for many!
To make it simple I made a menu that would appeal to both kids and adults. We served Swashbuckler Burgers, Walk the Plank Franks, Fish (goldfish crackers) & chips, cheesy cannonballs, and Wet Your Whistle Beverages. I used my HP printer to create the sign and slid it in a clear plastic sign holder. The skeleton bones you see on the table, were 50% off the day after Halloween!
I was able to reuse a few things from past events: Black table cloths from my wedding (and baby shower), fish nets from our wedding, a boat shelf my Aunt gifted us, sand buckets for snack foods, seashells from our wedding, and a few other items. Some items such as the balloon weights, covered in Pirate fabric, were actually large rocks from my front yard! DIY baby!
We started with an empty park rental space, see my Shindigz goody box? It is about to turn that place upside down! With a few hands on deck, we got ready to serve up a Pirate Birthday Party worthy of a Captain. Captain Davin that is.
This beautiful custom birthday banner was from Shindigz and everyone loved it! We now have it hanging in his room. It is well made and the colors come out so vibrant. I loved how you can customize it however you wish.
We did some simple but effective decorating to make the party rental area feel like a real event. Even visitors to the park were complimenting it. We used some red and black flag bunting banners, pirate street signs, and pirate flags to spruce up the all wood structure. No one boarding this ship would miss sailing time with as vibrant as we made the deck!
I spiced up the table cloths by using some sheer fabric from Wal-Mart that runs about $4 a roll. I cut it to make table runners. This gave the pop of color I needed to add in other accents. Red and black balloons gave the birthday boy his favorite thing while giving dimension to the area. Again, the ballon weights are actually large rocks with pirate fabric wrapping around them. I think my biggest expense besides the meat, was the balloon helium tank! I have bad luck transporting balloons, so I avoided that all together.
I also collected and grabbed all pirate or ocean themed toys we had to create custom table center pieces as well as those darling photo boxes from Michael’s Craft Store for about $2 each.
Due to the age range of children, I made sure to have some bountiful goodies for them, this pirate’s chest was a cute way to display it in one area on our food table.
One of my favorite items from Shindigz is the personalized stickers. This put a darling touch to the metal tin goody pails we put together for Davin’s friends. You can customize them however you like! The options, truly are endless.
Sometimes, the littlest things make the biggest impact. the little pirate cupcake flags and the personalized cupcake wrappers were by far the most talked about items, after the custom banner of course! We did a mix of solid colored cupcake wrappers with the personalized cupcake wrappers and they really stood out and stole the show. Putting flag toppers only on select cupcakes, created a very glamorous look for the photos!
I want to thank Shindigz for really helping me pull out all the stops. Between some simple DIY projects, reusing a few things, and selecting some amazing party supplies from their website, this 1st birthday party was a huge success.
Of course no party would be complete without showing off the guest of honor, Captain Davin, who stole my heart, took some time to sit down with his parents and recap the past year for this photo Thank you to Mona Paris Photography for capturing so many moments of this special day!
Stay tuned for a few more features on how to make ideas come to life for your future pirate party! Ahoy Matey! (Trust me, the party supplies you can grab over at Shindigz is INSANITY! This is only a tiny fraction of what they carry for Pirate themed parties, not to mention all themes you can dream up!)
