I want to give a big shout out to Sage Spoonfuls for being a grand prize sponsor in the Mommy & Me Birthday Bash for 2014! Not only was I ecstatic to test out the On-The-Go package but we are giving one away to a lucky winner this month!
“Mom created and launched in September 2011, the idea for Sage Spoonfuls was born when Liza had her first baby. She could not find homemade baby food products that offered the ease of use, convenience and quality she was looking for. Sage Spoonfuls provides parents with a complete homemade baby food system. One that allows them to easily make, serve, store and take their healthy homemade baby food on-the-go! “
Before I got pregnant I knew I wanted to make most of what my child would eat. I was blessed to have a son who has a fun time trying new foods like me. The one thing he is not a fan of though is liquid thin puree. This means that most every puree in stores is too runny for him to want and in the end, one of us is wearing more of it than we got in his mouth. I had bought a small food processor and some ice cube trays when I started out. The quality of creating a smooth blend was few and far, soI have not used them in months, it got so messy and tedious that letting him have regular food was just easier.
We have a problem though….too much solid food gives my son a belly ache and a struggle to go to the bathroom. There has to be a happy medium somewhere. There is, Sage Spoonfuls! I have to make a confession, I had never in my life used a Immersion Blender before. I want to also tell you another secret, I didn’t read any instructions before plugging this in and going to town with it! It is that easy to use! The On-The-Go Package comes with everything shown. I love how the plug in portion of the immersion blender also connects to the food processor lid. Dual purpose means less space taken up for storage on the appliances!

I had tested this out a few days prior and whipped up some easy things one at a time to see consistency and how much I could make. I tested bananas, plums, pears, avocados, and mango. When I was sure in my skills, I whipped up this magic concoction for my son so he could try kiwi for the first time. I mixed his all time favorite fruit, bananas, with kiwi! My husband had Davin test it and said our son “Tackled it.” By the time I had put the remainder in storage containers, the three ounces I gave him were gone! We have a baby approved consistency! Not only was this system easy to use but it was easy to clean!
The cook book that comes with the set is actually pretty amazing. Not only does it give you recipe ideas but it breaks it down into sections by age. It guides you on how to do your shopping to be prepared for creating homemade goodness for your children and it has some pretty amazing photos! You can even use your food processor to create recipes for the whole family along with the immersion blender. Soups, smoothies, desserts, the possibilities that I did not even know existed, are endless!
One thing I have been dying to create is hummus, my son enjoys this too, and now I have the ability and even a recipe to guide me. I really like how Liza split up things like fruit and listed a large variety under each on what would be great to mix together. She takes the guess work out of creating so all you have to do is shop for it, prepare it, and store it!
I am over the moon excited to try the Banana Coconut Oatmeal recipe for myself as much as I am for my son, that you can grab off their website. They offer a small but amazing selection for you to test out on their page, but it will go over way quicker and with perfect ease if you have the Sage Spoonfuls system as your side kick! You are missing out on so many brilliant ideas and easy recipes if you don’t have the cookbook! It has 66 recipes and hundreds of food combinations. It even won the Parent Tested Parent Approved Seal!
My son may be turning one next month but healthy eating is a lifetime battle and commitment. You can use puree for other things such as bread recipes and cakes. As stated before, make soups, smoothies, and other foods with the use of both the food processor and immersion blender! My son approves and so do I!
Liza, the mom of four and creator behind the system even has a blog where you can follow along on happenings with the company and her lifestyle. You can find Sage Spoonfuls on Facebook and Twitter as well.
